Giving My Head A Shake! Reply

I am totally confused ... lol. Why am I seeing designers making templates with OTHER people kits? I don't get this. Who gets the commission on the templates? There are sooo many photo book templates lately using all kinds of peoples kits. They obviously are being made as templates because there are no pics in it. Can someone enlighten me? lol

This one person "Rhonda" even made photo books with some of my stuff. I don't get it at all!!! Are they being approved as templates?

I just took a look at this. My guess is that she is new to this and doesn't understand? Actually I don't understand much about kits or templates either.. I don't make them, but I do use them for my personal projects.

As long as none of her projects are approved as templates, won't the kit owner still be paid for their use? I looked closely at one of her books and figured out that she had used kits from three different people. (I put it in my cart to see this, then looked up the kits, then removed the book from my cart.)

I've noticed several people doing this too and hoping that they know (or find out soon) that they cannot use other designers kits. Hopefully it will get worked out soon or we will get a reply from artscow about this.

This first came up a couple of months ago - just to reassure you they will not be approved as templates - only the kit designer can have a template approved. As you know Artscow are getting very particular about the quality of templates and each one submitted is being scrutinised. There is no chance that anything outside very set guidelines will be approved.
But if any of you are worried just drop customer services an email and I'm sure they will be able to reassure you.

the other reason you shouldn't worry is because if anyone copies these books from the gallery and uses them you will be paid for the use of your kit (unless it was a freebie that the purchaser already had in their kits)

Artscow has let me know they do NOT approve templates when people use other peoples kits. I didn't think so but I'm glad I checked.

Another strange one is the designer Vanya whose kits are all private for the book templates she's designing. Could be copywrite issues there but its hard to tell when the kits aren't visible, all very strange. At first I thought it was one kit she had kept private while working on it but its all the kits in her recent book designs and most of the other products too.

She has a lot of copywrite material in her design.
